This is so perfect! I’m finally thinking of getting the dog I’ve always dreamed of when I move early next year and I know that I’ll need to be taking him out all the time (I’ve already decided that it’s a “him” =D). A leash bag like this would be SO convenient, so that I can just get up and go!

Thanks Suerae! I thought it sounded fun too. No,I’ve never tried it. Right now we have an 80 lb. epileptic black lab/Blue Heeler mix, so I don’t think it would be possible. Blue Heeler’s are herding dogs, so he would probably be trying to round everyone up the whole time, or pacing around our tent! And as for your beagle, they definitely do rely on routine and are true home-bodies. I bet he’d love to howl at the stars for a night though(as long as you were right there with him!) What a fun idea! I found your post on The Blogging Mastermind Tribe – welcome! I can’t picture my beagle behaving himself at dog camp. He’s a bit restless and has a hard time out of his routine. I’m curious if you’ve tried it? I wonder if people and pooches get much sleep at night or if there is a lot of howling under the stars? ~ Suerae

Thank you, Sandy! The guilt is starting to dissipate; it just takes time, as I am sure you understand. After all the research I did, I’m pretty certain that it was insulinoma, a pancreatic tumor that’s pretty common in ferrets. He could have had surgery if we knew sooner, but even that wouldn’t have guaranteed anything.

I am so sorry. As a pet parent, the loss of one of your children is devastating. Unfortunately, it’s inevitable. I really wish animals had a longer life span. It’s just not fair for such loyal, faithful and loving creatures to live such short lives.

Please don’t blame yourself for this. You can’t guarantee that the vet would have noticed something. After all, if Ringo seemed fine the vet would not have done any extra testing, etc. And unfortunately, Ringo couldn’t tell you if something was wrong. One of our black labs had stomach cancer for years and we didn’t know it, until it was too late. We had taken her to vet faithfully every year for check ups. She never let on that she was in pain, until the last night of her life.

Thank you so much for sharing your story. I hope you heal soon. At least you know he’s close to you at all times (in your heart.)

I’m so sorry you had to give up your cat. Glad that you found a good home for her though.

Your last comment, “I so wish I had the resources to save every animal out there!”- I hear ya. That’s why my mom and I do what we can through this blog and our website. (and of course we keep taking in strays!)
