Pet Furniture-Five Reasons to Consider Getting Some

Pet furniture is not a necessity when getting a new pet.  It can also be very pricey so why would anyone even think of wasting their hard earned money on pet furniture?

  1. To keep your pets off of your furniture.  Your pets may not necessarily be destructive, but if they sleep on your furniture you probably have hair all over it.  This can be embarrassing if company gets hair all over their pants just from sitting on your furniture!  Drool can eventually leave stains on your couch if it happens enough.  And your pet may accidentally put a hole in your furniture just by climbing up onto it.
  2. It’s lower to the ground.   Furniture that is lower to the ground is safer for your pets.  They don’t have to jump or climb to get onto it.  Especially if your pet is older or disabled, you don’t want them to continue to jump on and off the couch.
  3. Most are washable.  Most pet furniture has either washable cushions, or washable covers that easily unzip to remove.  Cleaning pet furniture is much easier than cleaning your own, full size furniture.
  4. Firm cushions for comfort.  Pet furniture usually has firm cushions that are crafted for your pet’s comfort.
  5. It will make your pet happy!  Getting your pet their own furniture makes them feel special.  They enjoy having their own spot to curl up and get comfy.

Make sure you get furniture that is big enough to allow your pet to lounge comfortably, they need room to move around and find their “spot”.  So go ahead and pamper your pet!  After all, they are loyal companions all year long.

Are Dog Beds a Necessity?

The dispute over whether or not dogs “need” their own dog bed is a never-ending topic.  Does your dog absolutely need their own dog bed?  Probably not, especially if we’re talking about a puppy in it’s chewing stages.  The bed will just be ripped to shreds and strewn all over the house.  As they mature, you may want to get them their own dog bed just to keep them off your furniture.  Or you may get one just for fun, to pamper your pooch.  But if you have an older or disabled dog, a dog bed may very well be a necessity.

As dogs get older, they start to slow down.  It takes them longer to climb up stairs, and to get up off the floor from a lying position.  Depending on the breed, size, and sex of your pooch, they may also be prone to hip dysplasia and/or arthritis.  In these cases, you should look into an orthopedic pet bed.

When looking for a good orthopedic pet bed, look for padding that is at least 3″ thick.  Thicker padding will help ease your dog’s aches and pains while they sleep, and being up off the floor will make standing up easier for them.  Also, keep in mind the size and weight of your dog, and where you plan to put the pet bed.  Make sure to get a pet bed they can stretch out on and sleep comfortably.  Aging for dogs is very similar to that of humans.  You can’t stop the aging process, but you can find ways to avoid the pain and still enjoy life!

Cats Want Comfort Too!

My last post was about Giving your Dog the Gift of Comfort this Christmas.  I didn’t mean to leave out our feline friends.  As we all know, cats are the kings and queens of comfort.  With their long cat naps, they are pros at staying warm and cozy.  They will curl up in a thick plush blanket, on your pillow, the coziest chair in the house, wherever they can find a soft, warm, quiet place to snooze.

This Christmas, they too can get the gift of comfort.  Cat cuddler cat beds are specifically made for cats.  Since cats usually (and I stress usually) curl up to sleep, the cat cuddler cat beds hug their bodies for warmth and security.  They are made of an orthopedic grade foam structure for cushion and comfort.  The covers, which are machine washable, are made of Poly and cotton twill for added comfort.  Your cat will be in heaven, in one of these cat cuddler cat beds!

Give Your Dog the Gift of Comfort This Christmas

Our dogs are like our children, so naturally they are on our Christmas shopping lists.  There are numerous gift ideas out there for dogs, but their own dog bed seems to be one of the most popular.  With the weather turning colder, and the holiday season upon us, a nice, warm, cozy dog bed is the perfect gift.

Dog beds come in a large variety of sizes, shapes, colors, materials, etc.  To choose one that’s right for your dog, there are many things to consider:

  • What size is your dog?  Some dog beds are specifically made for smaller, “purse” dogs.  Make sure you check dimensions before buying.
  • Is your dog older or disabled?  An orthopedic pet bed should be at the top of your list.
  • Does your dog have any allergies?  Like humans, dogs can have allergies.  Make sure you know what the bed is made of, and filled with, before buying.
  • Does your dog like to sleep curled up, or sprawled out?  This can change the size and/or shape you need to look for.
  • Where are you putting the dog bed?  How much room do you have, and what shape do you need?
  • Are you trying to match decor in your house?  Choose a dog bed that comes in the style and color you need to match your existing decor.

It may take your dog a little while to get used to their new bed.  Put a favorite toy, bone, or blanket in it for security.  Eventually, they’ll make it their own.

Help Choosing Pet Supplies

Pet supplies have become a massive multi billion dollar market in the last 50 years, especially with the addition of so many online stores.  With so many choices, how do you know where to shop?

A huge factor to help narrow down where to shop, whether online or down the street, is to find knowledgeable providers of all your pet supply needs.  Search online for information on the product or products you want to purchase.  Check websites, blogs, pet articles, product reviews, or go to a nearby pet shop and ask someone who works there.  Once you get the information on exactly what to look for, you can then search for specific products, and compare prices.

With a little bit of research, you can find anything from pet apparel to luxury pet furniture that is within your price range.

Another Reason to Invest in a Cat Tree

1 word- toddlers.  Kids love cats.  But until they learn how to properly handle them, cats usually run for the hills when your toddler comes chasing.  Cats hide under beds, beg to go outside, or may bolt down stairs to get away.

Cat trees provide a safe haven for your cat that is up in the air, out of the reach of your toddler.  They can relax, in the same room as everyone else, with the peace of mind that no fur will be ripped out!  And most cat trees have the added bonus of scratching posts and/or danging toys attached.  Once your toddler gets a little older, and learns how to handle your cat, the cat tree will still be useful for your cat’s enjoyment.  It hopefully won’t be needed as a safe haven any longer, just a fun and enjoyable piece of furniture for your cat to enjoy.

Tips For Choosing The Right Pet House for Your Pet

The door height should be at least three quarters of your pet’s shoulder height (from the ground to the neck).  The length and width of the house should be at least equal to 25% larger than the distance between the nose and the root of the tail of your pet. The height of the house should be at least 25% taller and no higher than 50% taller than your pet when standing.

A lot of places will list the dog breeds that fit in each of their pet houses, this makes the guessing game a little easier!

Cat Trees, Cat Trees, Cat Trees!

If you’ve ever shopped for a cat tree, you’ve probably noticed that there are several different terms for them.  Cat trees, Cat climbing trees, Jungle Gym Cat Trees, Classic Cat Trees, to name a few.  Each website or store has their own terminology for cat tree types.

Classic Cat trees are usually a tower with one or more carpeted resting platforms.  They may have scratching posts or dangly toys attached also.

Jungle Gym Cat Trees tend to have more shape to them.  They usually have several different carpeted platforms that might “jet” off in different directions.  Jungle Gym Cat Trees almost always have dangly toys and scratching posts.  They are more of “Playground” for your cats.

Either of the above may come with a cat condo attached as well.  Cat condo’s are little houses for your cat to nap or play in.  They may be at the top of the cat tree, or placed in the middle of the platforms.  With all the choices in cat trees, your sure to find one that’s perfect for your feline friends.
