One Cat Tree for All of Your Cats

If you have multiple cats, don’t think you need to spend a fortune buying each of your cats a separate cat tree.  Just buy one decent sized cat tree and all of your cats can play together.  Your cats will love all of the different hiding spots, nap spots, scratching posts, toys to chase, and chasing each other up and down the posts.

Cat trees come in a variety of shapes and sizes.  It shouldn’t be too hard to find one large enough for all of your cats, with plenty to keep them occupied, and even match your decor.  If you choose one with several different levels, each of your cats will have plenty of room to lounge as well, and it won’t take up too much of your floor space.

Most cat trees are easy to assemble, and come with tools and detailed instructions.  And don’t worry, clean up usually consists of just a damp cloth and vaccuum.

Benefits of Cat Exercise

Many people choose to own a cat if they don’t feel they have the time required for a dog. A dog, after all, requires daily walks, and puppies are certainly more work than kittens. But that doesn’t mean that cats don’t need their own share of exercise. To ensure that your cat gets all the running, jumping, and climbing that he needs, make sure that you have looked into various cat trees.

These devices allow your cat to get regular exercise, and the benefits of this are numerous. Cats that have regular exercise are less likely to be obese, and this has the potential to greatly lengthen their lifespan. They also tend to have shinier coats and brighter eyes, both of which are indications of overall health. And if you’re interested in having multiple cats, this can also promote cat exercise and playfulness.

Fun For Your Indoor Cat

Outdoor cats get to chase small animals, climb trees, bask in the sunlight, and enjoy the fresh outside air.  If you have an indoor cat, you know they want to have fun too!

Cat trees can be hours of fun for your feline friend.  They can chase dangly toys (similar to small animals), and climb up the posts or different levels (close to a real tree).  And if you position the cat tree in front of a picture window or sliding glass door, they can also bask in the sunlight and enjoy the fresh outside air!

Springtime Fun for You and Your Pets

Don’t pass up the chance to get outside on warm days and have some fun with your pets.  Here are some fun, easy, and cheap ideas for you and your pets to enjoy during the nice weather.

  • Play ball or frisbee with your dog in the backyard, or the park.  Most dogs love a game of chase!
  • Set up an agility course in your yard and train your dog how to use it.  This not only gives them exercise, but will mentally stimulate them.
  • Dogs and cats both love to chase the lights in laser toys.  This is something that could even been done in the house if it’s a rainy day.
  • Go for a nice long walk around the block, or at the park.  This can be relaxing and beneficial to both you and your dog!  Make sure your dog has a collar with I.D. tags just in case.
  • Put a cat climbing tree in your back yard, or on the back porch.  They’re usually for in the house, but your cat will love the fresh air!

Your pets love spending time with you.  Planning fun activities for them will bring you even closer.  And you’ll both stay fit and active!

How to Redirect Your Cat’s Agression

Anyone with an aggressive cat knows how embarrassing it is when they bite a guest.  Sometimes, there could be an underlying health issue causing the aggression.  If you have been to the vet, and your cat is healthy as can be, how do you redirect their aggression?

Releasing some of their pent up energy will help.  Try tying a small cat toy to a cord and slowly dragging it around.  Move at a moderate pace, and make sure to praise them when they display good behavior.  Avoid using your fingers or toes as bait.  This may become a game to them, and they’ll want to chase every finger and toe that they see in the future.  Teach them how to play properly, without putting your body parts at risk!

Cats also need their alone time.  Try getting them a cat tree or cat condo.  They can get up away from all the hustle and bustle around the house, and get some well needed “alone” time.  Some cat trees even have dangly toys for your cat to chase, and scratching posts to fulfill their need to scratch.

Exercise for Cats

Cats need exercise just as much as dogs.  Not to mention a lot of mental stimulation. Without it, they can get bored and a bored cat can develop behavior problems.

Since cats are natural hunters, they like to chase things.  There are many toys that have feathers, mice, or streamers hanging off the end of a pole.  Wiggle this for your cat, and have him chase you around the house.  Just make sure there aren’t any loose parts that your cat can choke on.  Mimic the movements of birds and insects by moving the toy in short, jerky motions.  Let your cat catch the toy once in awhile, or they may lose interest.

Try to play with your cat a few times a day for 10 minutes at a time.  Pressed for time?  Play with your cat while you’re on the phone, or watching TV. And if you’re gone a lot, you can try picking up a cat tree that has dangling toys attached to it.  This way, they can climb, scratch, and play even while you are away. Your cat will love it, and will be happier and healthier!

Felines Love To Climb

Cats have a natural instinct to climb trees and remain perched at elevated heights.  The ancient ancestors of the common house cat had to avoid predators by climbing into the boughs of trees.  In addition, these forerunners of modern felines would perch in trees to avoid detection in spotting their prey.  The modern housecat, whose genes are borrowed from those ancient ancestors, find the same practices enjoyable.  It’s important for cats to have a place to climb that is their own, otherwise they’re more liable to climb your furniture or worse, your drapes!  Cats are also accustomed to sharpening their claws on climbing surfaces (like trees) so a cat climbing trees can serve as both a perch for your feline and as a place to sharpen their claws.

There are thousands of different cat climbing trees, and the model doesn’t matter so much as long as it provides your feline a place to get away from their predators (small children who want to pet them, dogs, and RC race cars), a place to view their prey (kibble, catnip, stuffed mice), and a place to sharpen their claws.  With a cat climbing tree you get it all; your cat would thank you if they could!
