Adopt a Shelter Cat Month

More than four million cats and kittens in the U.S. enter shelters every year.  Many shelters are running out of room and actually have to use relocatable trailers to house some of the cats and kittens.  If you are planning on getting a cat or kitten, please consider adopting from a shelter.

For the month of June, the ASPCA and Fresh Step litter are encouraging shelters to waive the fees associated with adopting cats.  They have already had over 100 shelters sign on.  Also, for every “like” Fresh Step gets on it’s facebook page, they will donate $1 to the ASPCA.  For more information, see the article the ASPCA posted.

I shared this and “liked” the Fresh Step FB page!

I had to give up my cat, Tigger when I was in college. I was forced to move into a dorm and couldn’t bring her with me. It was ridiculous what I had to go through to find her a home. The no-kill shelters were all full, or the ones that would take her told me that if she wasn’t adopted in a week or two they might have give her to another shelter – and that shelter may not be a no-kill shelter. We almost drove to VA (from PA) until I found a woman in NJ who fostered cats. It was heartbreaking.

Going back to the “my house would be a zoo” comment – I so wish I had the resources to save every animal out there!

Thank you for sharing and “liking” the page, there are way too many animals in shelters right now.

I’m so sorry you had to give up your cat. Glad that you found a good home for her though.

Your last comment, “I so wish I had the resources to save every animal out there!”- I hear ya. That’s why my mom and I do what we can through this blog and our website. (and of course we keep taking in strays!)

This is such an important post to share, Sandy, and you can be sure that I’ll tweet it! My two kitties are street kitties because there are tons of them here in Huancayo. I don’t think they have animal shelters at all. =(

Thanks for letting us know how we can help! I went to Like the Fresh Step page too! Love the quote you shared. =)
